An interesting position has arisen in Enzyme and Biomaterials Technology research group, Institute of Environmental Biotechnology, BOKU/acib-IFA Tulln:
Our group conducts research aimed at developing enzyme-based technologies for plastic degradation and recycling processes. The project will develop a “Diapers Recycler” process and show its proof of concept in laboratory scale. The "Diapers Recycler" is meant to be a system for recycling used diapers. To clean the diapers and purify the valuable recyclable components a powerful and highly specific enzymatic system and a mechanical separation step will be developed. The organic components will be directed to and recycled in a biogas plant. The recycled acrylates and plastic granulate will be obtained as saleable end products. The recycling of the components is a clear improvement over disposal, designed to have a highly positive impact on the environment.
