The Research Institute of Molecular Pathology (IMP) in Vienna pursues world-class research in basic molecular biology. It is located at the Vienna BioCenter and largely sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim. With over 250 scientists from 40 countries, the IMP is committed to scientific discovery of fundamental molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying complex biological phenomena.

We are currently searching for a full-time research assistant, starting at the earliest convenience in the laboratory of Dr. Diana Pinheiro at the IMP in Vienna, Austria. The lab’s research focuses on understanding the molecular and biophysical mechanisms underlying early embryonic development, using the zebrafish embryo and human embryonic stem (ES) cells as model systems. The lab employs a wide array of molecular biology, in vivo imaging and biophysical approaches to identify new players involved in embryogenesis and characterize their mechanism of action.

Your qualifications:

The qualified applicant should have theoretical background in molecular biology (such as completed Master’s or PhD degree) and laboratory experience. Experience in molecular biology and genetics is highly desirable. Experience with zebrafish and/or cell culture (especially ES cells) is desirable, but not strictly necessary. The role of the research assistant will be to manage purchases, stocks and shared equipment, as well as general organization tasks, for instance, scheduling group meetings. Finally, the applicant will also be responsible for supporting the work on projects focusing on the molecular and biophysical mechanisms underlying embryogenesis, for instance, by designing and cloning new fluorescent reporters, or generating knock-out lines, in zebrafish or ES cells. The distribution of tasks between organizational and research is intended to be about 50-50 overall.

Our offer:

We offer a young, dynamic, international work environment (employees come from 40 different countries), and a chance to make an important contribution to basic biomedical research. The position also offers opportunities for further training in multidisciplinary techniques spanning molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry and biophysics. The annual gross salary starts from EUR 33,166 - or higher - for a full-time position (40 hrs/week), depending on qualification and experience. The employment will be initially limited to one year, with possible extension up to several years depending on performance.

The Research Institute of Molecular Pathology is an exciting international research institute in the beautiful city of Vienna embedded within the dynamic Campus Vienna Biocenter (www.viennabiocenter.org).  The operating language of the institute is English.  The institute is an equal opportunity employer.
